pelican or pelicant?

i learned some valuable lessons today. bring a camera everywhere. spontaneous photo shoots are fantastic. and when armed with a camera, be sure to be ready, at all times. so today, in need of some material to use for the examiner gig, i decided to go out and about and see if i could be inspired. i had to go to the midway anyways, so i decided to go photograph the kissing sailor statue next to it.(those will be used at a later date no doubt) i made a second choice to go check out the harbor and photograph some boats(those too will be pulled out when the going gets tough, some other time.) anywho, so besides from the sailor/nurse kissing and the boats, i ran across something i hadn't seen before, up close and personal. there was a boat load (pun intended) of pelicans just flocking around (another intentional pun). so luck be my lady tonight, i decided to photograph some birds. the following is what i saw and took. there was only one picture that i was disappointed by. the reason behind the disappointment was that i wasn't ready for ANYTHING. i missed what could have been a monumental shot by a millisecond, or in this case, misjudged the frame by less than an inch. le boo i say! but i will post it regardless, because i have to learn from my mistakes. and guess what, i am not afraid to say and show that i do make them. although the photograph (the first one posted) isn't terrible, it could have been better. but that is life. live and learn. se la vie!
