words pictured.

if you happened to be paying attention a few months ago, you will remember that i love signs on walls, ala port townsend. it's kind of like the advertising billboards of the centuries past. i just love the way stencil looks on brick, and how over time the weather and probably just time begin to alter the colors. i also love the textures of paint and dirt on concrete walls. well, new orleans was not only able to satisfy that personal visual delight but they also were able to indulge me  in a whole new one. tile. they used to use tile, on the ground to denote street names. at this point most of them have broken, been worn into the ground or simply just removed, but occasionally, occasionally you can find an entire one intact. and to me, that is just so cool!!!! and to fulfill my new affinity for close up photos to reveal texture, i ran across this pealing streetcar sign. i didn't pay enough attention so the cropping isn't exactly what i was shooting for but it will certainly work as far as being able to see the paint actually peal off! and finally the last is an unsatisfying image of the new orleans water meter. i probably could have done without sharing this one but the seal itself is so cool i just had to!

reflecting on time spent in new orleans.

well i am back bitches! bruised, defeated, headache driven and dehydrated but i am back. this second time in new orleans for me did nothing other than solidify the fact that man i love that city! the people, the architecture, the food and the music! 5 days spent drinking and dancing and taking in an endless supply of fantastic music. well as too be suspected i took way too many photos and i am having a rough go at organizing and all that jazz. but this first round of what will be a whole lot of new orleans posts revolves around a fun little i decided to have. it's all about reflections baby, ya you rite!

capturing a real swingingly good time.

i was jogging one day through my favorite canyon when i noticed that someone happened to have set up a swing, hanging from my favorite tree, that was in this favorite canyon of mine. instantly my brain went to pictures. i had to take them there. i saw the entire scenes in many variations laid out right before me and honestly i had no option other than to make it happen. and from there, this amazing swinging sunday sprung. a fantastic day spent in the company of my amazing and creative sisters, with paints, swings, parasols, champagne, food, and lots and lots and lots of love and laughter!
while getting together the props that i wanted to use i ran across my old camera. now i will be honest in telling you that i was seconds away of taking the old 35mm out for a ride but in the end decided against it. i did however find my old filters. i really thought that they would make an awesome addition to the photos, give them that vintage rustic feel that i was trying to achieve.
anyways, here are a few of the images captured from today. not surprising in any sort of way, the candid photos came out WAY better than any of the "posed" photos. just goes to show the value in what it is that i like to do, and that is to "capture" real moments in time. today really validated the fact that i am not and really don't want to be a studio photographer. i'm finding that perhaps that is where my talent lies...hmmm, go figure.

inspiration point or rather point of inspiration.

so i am moving soon. and if i could have my way, i would blow the following three photographs up huge like and put them on my walls. but im talking ginormous! well perhaps after everything pans out and i am making money for my crafts and am well reknowned i will be able to do so. until then, my shallow pockets will print them tiny like and tape them to whatever wall or mirror i deem vital. these are photographs of an ad campaign that was running for some over self indulgent apartment complex in la brea. i obviously messed with the contrast a bit, and while photographing i eliminated the cheesy pictures and just kept the words. those are what mattered to me anyways. they are my constant reminders for all things life, work and art related. as if there is a separation.

LA, gaged and bound.

i went to LA a while ago. it's funny while reviewing the photos that i took while there, i am totally bored and honestly a bit disappointed! especially since at the time i just thought they were the bees knees. ugh! but that's kind of how i feel about everything right now so it's rather suiting. anywho, out of the hundreds of pictures that i took, these still curl the edges of my mouth. my very very very favorite being that of my parents, but that is rather suiting as they are my most favorite people ever.

it's funny, i made a suiting pun above which is an excellent transition to the next photo which makes me wish for the days when we could forget about being practical and still carry suitcases such as these. but now with the invention of wheels who could be bothered to actually carry? so for now, they can continue to dance into our hearts as decor.

and imagine that, another totally intentional and ill placed pun! this one being of course dancing. the following photo makes me smile as it makes me think of happy dancing feet, floating off into the sky.

angles angles angles.

i feel like i talk about perspective a lot. how looking at something from different angles can totally change what it is that you are seeing. with this in mind, i went out on a photo expedition to to prove my point. using two different subjects, i changed my focus in three different ways. you know what, explaining it is kinda monotonous. let me show you instead. as you are going to see, the picture can change dramatically, depending on how you frame it.

unexpected surprises.

so, i work in an amazing park. and i rarely get to experience it. it's a whole lot more like i sit back and watch as others get to enjoy it. well i got lucky this weekend and was able to get out there and take it in for all it was worth. and of course i brought my camera with me to experiment along the way. surprised, i know. anyways, here is what happened along my travels. 3 very different images with 3 very different techniques. can ya dig it?

perspectives.

i picked up a book today at costco that got me all amp'd up and super jazzed. it was all about macro photography. now granted close ups are always cool but this was just awesome! it was all on distorting images. an example. if you zoomed up real close on a dew ridden spider web, with the proper technique you could create the image of pearls. hard to explain without a visual but anyways, it has inspired me in a manner that i haven't been inspired in a while. i am super stoked to go out there and take some new photos with this in mind. but that's a post for a future date. today i want to share a few things that i have already done in which i have taken the average, and through careful visual cropping, captured something unique that was within something simple. for example, tree bark or moss growing on trees or empty boxes.... here, let me show you instead of all this blah blah blahing.
so here is an example of how what something looks like from afar,

can change when seen upclose.

this is an example of texture that can be created from tree bark.

or what you can see if you looked at a telephone pole that is used for flyers, a little closer.

or moss on a tree.

or nifty designs that are naturally formed on trees.

or as this case is, in trees.
